Then yesterday we had suddenly beautiful weather again, so after breakfast and a few chores I decided to take the rest of the day off and do some exploring. I'm trying not to spend much money, so that I have some when Shan & Brit come (in 9 days!!!).
Randomly choose Yantic Falls Indian Leap, in Norwich, and was not disappointed.
Passed a cool looking building and decided to take a closer look. It's Norwich Free Academy, a fancy-schmancy artsy-fartsy high school. There's a cool modern atrium courtyard, and from there you can check out the Slater Memorial Museum, which fyi is only $3 and totally worth it.
The Slater family traveled all over the world, and collected some pretty sweet stuff...
Later, when the Memorial was built and the Academy formed, they used casts to make replications of famous statues from antiquity. Maybe it's not as cool as traveling to Europe and seeing them in person, but it's pretty close :)
I was especially happy to find this statue, which is one of my favorites. It's called the Nike of Samothrace, or, Winged Victory. I love the drama and movement of it.
From there I went to Stonington, a quiet little seaside town.
On the way home I had a hard time keeping my eyes open. And it wasn't even late! Guess I'm still catching up on my rest... So I laid down "just to close my eyes," and woke up 2 hrs. later and it was dark outside! Staggered out of bed to find Jess & Dean making dinner. We visited with Bev & Mattie a bit, and watched a movie. Pretty good day :)
